The Automobile – The Abandoned Skate Monument + Director's Talk

In a grove along the old E6 outside Falkenberg lies a strange sight – an abandoned concrete skate park, which over the years seems to have lost its former glory. But this is not just any park; it is actually one of the oldest in the world.

This concrete oasis has aged like a living book, where truths dance with untruths, hidden in its concrete cracks. Its existence is not just a local curiosity but rather a living depiction of a time when skateboarding culture took its first faltering steps.

One of these enchanted souls is skater John Magnusson. When he learns that a new residential city plan is being drawn up and that this would mean the death blow for the skate park, he takes matters into his own hands in a desperate attempt to save this unique piece of history.

With images and archives that are now coming to light for the first time, Automobilen takes us on a road trip to "Halland's Las Vegas" in the 70s, a place that was anything but abandoned. Stories from both now and then are woven together around the big question mark: What really is a cultural heritage?
