Kitesurfing Buying Guide

Kitesurfing should be fun, safe, and easy to learn. The right equipment—based on your weight, skill level, and the winds you usually ride in—means more time on the water and better progress.

GET OFF TO THE RIGHT START

Three Things to Consider Before You Buy

The best gear is the gear that suits where you ride, your skill level, and your goals. The most expensive option isn’t automatically the best—especially when you’re just starting out.

1 Take a course

A kite generates powerful forces. In a course, you’ll learn about safety systems, rigging, the wind window, body dragging, self-landing, and how to choose a safe spot.

2 Choose an easy-to-ride kite

A stable freeride kite with good depower and an easy relaunch leads to faster progress and more successful sessions than an extreme competition model.

3 Buy a complete system

The kite, bar, board, and harness should work together. We always recommend the right bar for the right kite and check line length, V-split, and safety systems.
